What does glass removal involve?

Glass removal involves the controlled extraction and disposal of glass from windows, doors, facades, partitions, curtain walling, atriums, and other structural elements. It is a critical service for the demolition, renovation, or upgrading of commercial glazing systems. Dynamic Access uses specialist deglazing equipment and working methods to carry out the safest and most efficient glass removal service.

Our approach covers the safe detachment and controlled lowering of glazing panels using specialist glass suction lifters, protection of areas below, ground cordon management, and the safe removal and disposal of glass from site. For high level glass removal projects, our IRATA rope access technicians carry out controlled deglazing from height, working alongside crane operations where required to lower large or oversized panels safely.

We always produce site-specific risk assessments and method statements before commencing any demolition and glass removal project. These set out practical and effective control measures for the safe execution of works and are agreed with the client before site mobilisation. For glass located at height, in high-footfall areas, or on live commercial sites, this documentation is particularly important in ensuring the safety of building occupants and the general public throughout the works.

Demolition & Glass Removal FAQs

What is deglazing?
Deglazing is the controlled process of removing glass panels from their frames, supports, or structural elements. It requires specialist equipment and working methods to ensure glass is extracted safely, particularly at height or in occupied buildings. Dynamic Access uses specialist glass suction lifters, controlled lowering equipment, and IRATA rope access technicians to carry out deglazing safely and efficiently.

Can you remove glass at height without scaffolding?
Yes. Our in-house IRATA rope access technicians carry out controlled glass removal at height, including from high-rise facades, curtain wall systems, and overhead glazing. We also use MEWPs, self-erecting cranes, and existing cradle or gantry systems, depending on the access requirements of each project.

What happens to the glass after removal?
Removed glass is handled in accordance with waste management requirements. Intact panels are lowered and removed from site safely. Broken or hazardous glass is contained and disposed of in line with current regulations.

Can you remove glass from occupied commercial buildings?
Yes. We regularly carry out demolition and glass removal works in occupied commercial buildings and live environments. Works are planned carefully to minimise disruption and where required we carry out glass removal outside of standard working hours. Ground protection and public safety measures are included in our planning for every project.

Do you work alongside demolition contractors?
Yes. We work with main contractors and demolition companies on larger projects, providing specialist deglazing capability where high level access or specialist equipment is required. Our site-specific risk assessments and method statements are produced and agreed with the principal contractor before works commence.

Can you remove curtain wall glazing systems?
Yes. We carry out controlled deglazing of curtain wall systems as part of refurbishment, replacement, or demolition programmes. Our team assesses the structure and access requirements before confirming the safest method of removal. Our curtain wall repair and commercial glass replacement services can follow on from removal works, providing a complete solution from a single contractor.
