Project Snapshot:

Location: One Blackfriars, London
Building type: High-rise tower
Service delivered: Vinyl banner removal, adhesive residue treatment and full tower window clean
Access method: Rope access
Project type: Glazing refurbishment and façade restoration

The Brief:

Dynamic Access were brought in by the country’s leading façade restoration company to assist with the removal of an extremely large vinyl advertising banner from the side of One Blackfriars, a 170-metre tower on London’s South Bank. The works required specialist high-rise rope access expertise to safely access and strip the banner from the building’s façade. Following successful completion, the building’s contractor also requested a full traditional window clean of the tower’s entirety in preparation for the completion of construction works on the building.

The Challenge:

Working at height on one of London’s most prominent towers presented significant access and technical challenges. Beyond the physical removal of the banner itself, the process left a thick adhesive residue across the glazing and façade details that required specialist treatment. Removing this without causing damage to the underlying glazing or façade finish, and to a standard that left no visible trace, demanded both the right products and a high level of operative skill at height.

Our Solution:

Dynamic Access accessed the banner safely via rope access and carried out its removal from the side of the tower. Once the vinyl was stripped, specialist products were applied to treat and fully remove the thick adhesive residue left behind on both the glazing and façade details, leaving no trace of the banner or its fixings. The glazing and façade were restored to their original condition throughout.

Following the success of the initial works, Dynamic Access returned to carry out a traditional window clean across the entirety of the tower in preparation for practical completion of the construction programme. This too was delivered solely via rope access.

The Outcome:

Both phases of work were completed successfully via rope access, with the glazing and façade fully restored and the tower cleaned to the standard required ahead of construction completion. The project demonstrated Dynamic Access’ capability to deliver specialist glazing refurbishment and façade treatment on some of London’s most complex and high-profile high-rise buildings, and led directly to the award of the follow-on window cleaning contract.

If you need specialist support with glazing refurbishment, vinyl banner removal or high-rise façade restoration in London or across the UK, Dynamic Access can provide safe, thorough delivery using rope access, with no scaffolding required.
